The four groups say the province has cut hospital beds and "rationed access" to long-term care beds, which has led to thousands of people on wait lists. Local numbers show the longest wait time for a basic long-term care home bed is 1,907 days, or more than five years.
At the current time, the homes are not able to provide meals for visitors to eat in resident rooms. Visitors are not permitted to eat meals in the communal dining areas or common areas of the home. For residents living in shared rooms, visitors must not remove their mask if the resident’s roommate is in the room during a visit. One of the important functions of long-term care homes is to help reduce or better manage dementia-related symptoms.
Activities
Basic rooms are linked by a washroom that is shared between two residents. General visitors are not permitted to visit residents who are isolating or areas of the home that are on outbreak. General visitors include people who are visiting for social reasons or who are providing non-essential services. During outbreaks, there may be some restrictions on general visitors.
The property is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, walking paths and lovely scenery with an emphasis on outdoor access for residents. Each home area has two separate wings, each with its own bathing spa, private dining area, and den with a fireplace. At the end of each hallway, there are individually decorated areas for residents to visit with family and friends. Ground floor home areas have direct access to secure gardens, while the second floor has two patios which overlook the garden areas below.

The size of the wait list in homes you are considering may be important to you. While the length of the wait list may be a factor in how soon you may be able to move in, the length of the wait list isnot necessarilyan indication of how long you may have to wait. Once a year, residents can take part in a resident satisfaction survey. This survey gives residents an opportunity to give feedback anonymously. Students can fulfill their volunteer hours for high school and add new skills to their résumé or college applications. Residents with the virus are assessed and if hospitalization is required, a consultation with their power of attorney or substitute decision maker will occur prior to transfer.

Individuals under 16 years of age must have approval from a parent or legal guardian to be designated as a caregiver. The province has prioritized the supply of PPE to long-term care homes. The homes have an appropriate supply of equipment to support everyone’s safety, and we are working with the province and suppliers to maintain that inventory. Staff and resident cohorting will be implemented to limit the spread of the virus in the home. Cohorting means that residents may be moved to a different location in the home and staff may be assigned to work with specific residents or to provide care for residents in a specific order.

I noted the number of beds available on average every month for that specific home. Finally, I averaged the wait time across the categories for 9 out of 10 people waiting. The Central CCAC did not list wait times at all, so that LHIN is not part of the analysis. Some LHINs did not have the number of people waiting, some did not have stats for available beds.
